Finishing Requests + Twitter

UPDATE!
Hey guys, it's time for another journal update!

I've only got 9 months left until I finish my National Service! WOW! It's already been more than a year since I enlisted! Time sure flies by~
Nothing exciting at work though, admin life isn't something to boast about 8D

Also, I've been playing Left4Dead once a week with my friends from the office for the past 3 weeks. That game is bloody fun, shotgun all the way man! loll

NEWS on Requests
Requests are currently closed

I've also been working hard to finish all the requests that have been made to me. I know it's been quite a while, and I apologize for that. It's been quite busy for me (although office life is quite dull, filing a never ending flow of files is quite taxing) and it's also due to a bit of procrastination on my part >_<
I plan on submitting all the requests that have been made to me at one go, so to those who have requested art from I once again ask for you patience. Thanks very much and I appreciate the support!

TWITTER
So I've had a Twitter account for a while...but I've never really used it.
But I'm trying it out now, so if anyone wants to follow me or drop me a tweet, feel free to @ [link] :D

WHOA! So I actually tried using your tutorial again, and I found out that after I got rid of the white spaces, the color of the lineart looked faded. I forgot to use the step "lock transparent pixels"
I didn't know what it meant, and I tried it today (I couldn't find it last time... Silly me. :P). So it pretty much allows you to paint without worrying about paint getting on the transparent pixels. It was kinda vague in your tutorial, but it makes sense now. So I filled the lineart with greyish black afterwards.
I was trying all sorts of things before using lock transparency. like, I was changing the color levels and playing around with contrast hoping that I could restore the faded color, but whoa! Lock transparency makes so much more sense. Thank you.
It's as if photoshop was made for lineartists. :D

I'm still a learning artist. So, most of my stuff will be messy, and very sketchy.

Photoshop is harder than it looks or sounds to me. I guess I'm just a noob at it. :D I need more practice.
That should be my personal quote from now on: "I NEED MORE PRACTICE"
I know that was the main thing that my martial arts instructor always told me. That everyone always needs more practice. No one is perfect.
Ahem, yeah, I'm getting off track.
I'm asking multiple people for tips. If I ever get a piece of work done digitally, I'll post up the results, and hopefully, learn from it.

Good to hear you're committed to learning :D Don't worry man, you'll get the hang of it ;) and you can always drop me a note or msg if you have any questions ^^
Thank you. Of course, I dont' expect it to happen over night. It's gonna be a gradual process, learning basics and then developing my own style. But for the mean time, it looks like I'm just gonna try to figure out how to color using the layering process you described.

I'm pretty sure I've made the biggest collection of the best fan art works of Avatar the Last Airbender. And one (or more) of your arts is part of it. It would be nice if you could take some time to look throught it, or even favourite it, so you can have it all in one fav.

Here is the [link] .
Thank you very much for being a part of it!
Ok. I tried stuff with photoshop just to get a feel for it. I noticed that if you create a sandwich of layers (original picture as first and last layer, with blanks in between) and try to color in the middle as is, it does absolutely nothing, since the first layer isn't transparent. So I learned something there.
I did read somewhere about people who are able to select only the lineart by using something called "Quickmask mode" to select only the white areas (after they balanced the contrast and brightness to get only black and white), and then they do "inverse" so that they only select the lineart. I haven't tried this yet, so I don't know too much about it.
Also, I've also tried setting the brush mode to "multiply" and messing around with that a little directly on the background layer. That seems to give the appearance of painting underneath, but in reality, it's like watercolors, where paint is just being lightly applied, and the lines still show up. I guess I shouldn't do it this way, since I'd be painting directly on the background.

I'm trying all sorts of things to see what works. I guess experimentation is the first step to learning photoshop. I haven't even tried messing with it, but trying to just learn it head on with some tutorials. Gotta mess around first to get a feel for it. :D
